Former Davis Levin Livingston attorney, Erin C. Davis, has been appointed by President Barack Obama to the position of senior advisor in the U.S. Department of Labor’s Mine Safety and Health Administration. In her new position, Ms. Davis will play a leading role in developing and implementing the rules, regulations, and guidelines that ensure a safe and healthy working environment for workers in the mining industry across the nation. Since its creation in 1978, the MSHA has been responsible for a dramatic decrease in deaths, injuries, and illnesses among America’s miners.
Ms. Davis has been with Davis Levin Livingston for the past four years, starting out as an associate in the litigation division. A native of Honolulu, she attended the Punahou School, then went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in public policy from Duke University’s Sanford Institute of Public Policy in Durham, North Carolina. She received her Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where she served on the school’s prestigious Political and Civil Rights Law Review, one of the top scholarly journals of its kind in the nation.
After graduation, Ms. Davis returned to North Carolina to work as a public defender in the Wake County Public Defender Office for two years, then worked for the law firm of Colson, Hicks, & Eidson in Miami, Florida.
Returning to her home state of Hawaii, Ms. Davis accepted a position as a Hawaii Governor to the Board of The American Association of Justice, serving in that capacity for three years. After joining Davis Levin Livingston, she returned to the mainland in 2013 to serve as ‘of counsel’ for the firm in Washington, D.C. After being appointed to the MSHA by President Obama in May of 2016, Ms. Davis took a temporary leave of absence from the firm to attend to her new duties and responsibilities.
Ms. Davis is licensed to practice law in Hawaii, North Carolina, Washington, D.C., and Maryland. Her specialty areas of practice include civil and consumer rights, class actions, medical malpractice, personal injury, and insurance bad faith.
Ms. Davis is the second Davis Levin Livingston attorney to be chosen for government service in less than a year. President Obama nominated Clare Connors to the position of U.S. District Judge for the District of Hawaii earlier in 2016. Her appointment is pending confirmation in the U.S. Senate.
Davis Levin Livingston was featured in Newsweek magazine in 2013 as one of the top personal injury law firms in the United States.
